But it's just milk! I'm not killing cows!
|
Vegans avoid all animal products, therefore, many dairy items are eliminated from their diet. These foods include cow milk, cheese, butter, ice cream, and yogurt. The most common reason these are avoided are due to the suffering of the animals within the dairy industry.
Many times people have said, "It's just milk! No one is being killed for it!" yet, that is not true. While alive, dairy cows are artificially impregnated each year in order for them to produce milk. Since the milk is taken for human consumption, the calves are generally taken from their mothers within a day of being born. The males calves are crated and sold for veal meat. The female calves are kept to be used as milk producers. When dairy cows are no longer able to produce enough milk to be profitable for the farm, they are sent to slaughter. Spent dairy cows are used for meat in soup, pet food, or hamburger meat.

"I don't eat any animals or anything that has to do with animals. No fish or egg or dairy
because I personally don't feel it's a good practice to eat anything that might run away from you." ~ Russell Simmons |
